market festival

i honestly don’t know what so spectacular or great about the night market that is usually held every summer. other than the overpriced food and massive crowds, id say its nothing more than a reason to be out at night with some friends chilling and just, being out here because there is no where else to go in melbourne at night. like really. there were heaps of people there as usual. alot of my own friends were there as well. its like…there’s nothing else to do so lets all go to the night market wweeee.

apart from some stalls that sold normal goods at any typical market like souvenirs, accessories, the main attraction of the night market has to be the food. basically , its like a pasar malam with more lok lok and apong stalls. the presence of the live music bands and performances did a good job in entertaining the crowd i must say.

the streams of people who flock in and out of the market were mainly there to eat the exotic range of food they had on sale such as kangaroo meat , croc meat. well those were the more , adventurous stuff. but they had a very broad range of food stalls ranging from spanish, japanese , vietnamese , turkish , mexican , italian , greek and alot more that i don’t even know where they are from. but there are ALOT of things to tickle your palette. they even have desserts such as gelati and those kinda stuff.

me and my friend had some German gourmet sausages for dinner. mind you the food wasn’t cheap. a single sausage hot dog came up to 8 dollars. a little pricey if u ask me. all the food there was around that price or more. i think minimum was about 7 dollars. we couldnt get to sink our teeth into a croc burger because it was already sold out when we got there. must have been popular. i mean..who wouldnt want to eat a croc when its usually them eating you eh.

then for dessert we decided to try this honey dumpling thingy. tasted like a flour ball. its like tong yuen but fried on the outside. abit like french toast as well. wasn’t anything fantastic, but the queue was quite enthusiastic.

the overgrown fried tong yuen

overall, i went with everyone else’s or most of their motives, just to get out of the house and be there because there is nothing else to do in melbourne at this time. but it was cool and documenting it has been pretty entertaining for me as well. recollections of the evening. well at least i did something.

what we would do for love

February 26, 2008

its funny how us humans do the most extreme things to get attention or recognition. even for love. just thinking about the guys who would be willing to go so far to the extent of having a DOLL for a companion. i mean…its unbelievably extraordinary. its desperation at its peak!

i’m sure there are reasons out there to justify their actions and they have proven themselves quite remarkably well given the amount of scrutiny and public disregard for them. its like…another form of the homophobic syndrome but now, its with dolls.

granted i think these people are weird..(c’mon its like they enjoy having sex with inanimate objects..thats just bizarre) but i think there shouldn’t be such conformity to such abnormal habits such as this. even if the shrink at the ward says ‘its ok’ and ‘it might be normal’ for some people BUT might have some repercussions over the long run.

Dr. Douglas Tucker, a forensic psychiatrist at the University of California San Francisco’s Department of Psychiatry who specializes in treating sexual offenders, says the pro-doll arguments are not off-base. Broadly speaking, intercourse with a love doll doesn’t signal anything particularly wrong or unhealthy, and arousal by such a lifelike depiction of a beautiful nude woman is natural. “I think most guys would approach this as a novelty and could muster some arousal

BUT

Tucker ventured that for certain men, doll love could stunt normal emotional development because intimacy with another person is a milestone in maturity. Immediate gratification and complete control of the emotional content of a relationship with a doll might make a man accustomed to absolute control with women — a dynamic that would likely not play out well in a real relationship.

i mean…seriously….YA THINK!

but back to the underlying factor that we as men and women desire to be loved and to love. its in our genes and our blood. we are created that way. but i think there is still a fine line between the limits of love and desperation. desperation would be the cause of sexual crimes …the need for that intimacy. yes intimacy. with love, i think one would desire a certain level of intimacy as well. its not wrong, its also natural. but again with limits. controlling and being aware of these limits are what helps us understand what it is to love one another specifically to your relationship partners be it your spouse or girlfriend or boyfriend. and love does not mean treating your partner like some sex tool. majority of the people who purchase these dolls are doing just that. it is degrading and not doing justice to the respectable female populace. the sole purpose of these dolls in my opinion …is just to satisfy their sexual needs…its not for company or companionship or even therapeutic reasons like some claim..its for sex, with a doll with a rubber hole. disgusting

Moon

February 25, 2008

I went to the Moon today.

it’s pretty and cold…and has lots of food and drinks and is very balinese and is quirky in it’s own ways. it also had lots of extremely artistic moon men and women. it’s situated on jalan imbi.

Kidding.
i went to MoonFX today for an offline with the client. Ive never been there before but it is so pretty. feels like you’re in another land there. working in another land. on computers doing things people can only do on computers like make people fly and make drawings come to life. how appropriate.

with quirky artworks and sculptures and structure of the little bungalow turned office, it’s really pretty. everything in there is a work of art. from it’s staircases to it’s chairs and tables made to order, to it’s kettles and plates and computers all personalized. what a nice artistic place to work. if i ever had a studio one day, i would want it to be like that. and so quaint and comfy and cozy. i like.

couldn’t take many pics as i was too busy working and tyring to get people to understand what we are trying to say. but it is a great expereince. plus they have a mini lunch area where people cook them lunch and serve them coke and coffee and ice lemon tea. i mean…talk about great work life. and the area around the office have food places we’ve heard people rave about all our lives. like the best curry chicken in KL and the place to get the best hainaese coffee and toast with kaya and a thick slice of butter or the place with the best yong tau foo. it’s all within walking distance. so cool. and near pavilion and eden and bangkok jazz.

wish i could work at a pretty place like that. inspiration is like at every corner. unlike offices where you feel like a stranger in your own cubicle. i came back to a mass of bad vibes and lots of screams and anger. which i will skip, fast forward or rewind and go back to reliving me sitting on the desk at MFX surrounded by pretty paintings, sculptures and a grand antique door waiting for me to walk through.

happenings

February 24, 2008

today while i was walking down swanston street looking for a place to grab a bite for lunch with my sister, there was this long queue lining up along the street. during lunch time!! and guess what. they were lining up for a concert right smack in the middle of the street. they closed off half a street, basically a city block and set up their stage and everything there. didnt know who was playing though as you really cant see over the barricades. but there were quite alot of people. and i dont think it was a free concert. you actually had to pay for it i think. i saw them having TICKETS!!

concerts on the street? pretty cool. but i mean…who would pay for them. its like..paying to go to the public toilets. i think a street is a public place…so technically shouldnt it be a free concert? maybe its free but u needed to get a ticket from somewhere. so yea. i thought it was pretty interesting.

actually there are alot of interesting things going on in melbourne during the summer. take for example the Moonlight Cinema. i think its only on for the summer thats why never really heard of it because im always back for the summer. its like our starlight cinema back home or whatever they call it. they have a pretty good line up of movies though. old school ones like .edward scissorhands and recent ones as well like i am legend and across the universe and alot more. pretty good selection i feel.

and my aunt was telling me they have outdoor plays as well. like a midsomer nights dream. so you walk around the park with them as they move to different locations and you then sit down and watch them again. sounds awesome eh.

and another one is the Outdoor Sunset concert. its free!! symphony concerts in the park. sadly i think its all almost over because summer is almost over as well. but i never really knew there were so many things to do in melbourne in the summer. well at least if i stay here for summer ill have at least more options on activities.

A not so good day

February 23, 2008

is one like today.

When im moody and everything comes to play.
when i have something bad to say about everything.
and when it feels like all great things about me and all the optimism is like sucked out of me.

i think it’s a girl thing.

cravings and ravings

February 22, 2008

i finally had my subway sandwich today. and oh what joy it was to take that first bite into the soft and fresh bread. to feel the crisp lettuce and onions crunch and crackle beneath my teeth. and with the other cucumbers and olives and carrots and capsicum. and the kicker, 8 meaty meatballs soaked with bolognease sauce…oh and amalgam of wonderful flavours. oh how i missed you so. im such a pig at times me thinks. so thats my lunch …a hearty meatball foot long italian herbs and cheese subway sandwich with the lot (means all the veges except the pickles and th jalapeños)

One of my fave pics.
Cause it’s so natural.

So you.

The lack of light.

February 21, 2008

It’s amazing how everything links to us.
Even the lack of things links to us.

Like the sun wasn’t up yet when i came to office today.
And it reminded me of us at Phuket, we didn’t get to watch the sunrise.
Or how we would always be up really early…ehem.

And i see road kill.
And i thought about the last time i saw one and told you how icky it was with the dog looking at me.
Oh you won’t be able to imagine the amount or the kinds of roadkill and debris left from accidents the night before when you come out to drive at 6am.

Or i see haze and i realise how everytime you go back, haze will come and engulf us full force.

And when i don’t have coffee in the afternoons i think about how i could be with you having my coffee now.

Or when i was driving this morning and headlights seem extra bright.
And i thought about us the last time both thinking it was our astigmatism when we saw this car with super bright headlights tailing us.

How i miss you sweetie.
